Designed for those who:

1. Are just beginning to dive into metalsmithing and want to learn the basics.

2. Have some experience in metalsmithing but want to gain a higher level of proficiency and confidence.

These workshops are condensed into single 3-hour sessions, primarily using demonstrations and discussion. Those who would like additional guided support in practicing these skills are strongly encouraged to join Annette in SOS / Supported Open Studio time on Fridays.

CREATE SHAPE AND LIGHT: SAWING, DRILLING, BENDING

Participants will saw efficiently and create shapes and openings in metal, create smooth edges, drill holes and consider the use of space in their designs.

A GREAT LOOK! CREATE w/ TEXTURE & DIMENSION

Participants will use a variety of tools and techniques to create dimension and interest in their work. We will consider the impact of texture in our designs and completion of pieces.

CONNECT WITH FIRE: SOLDERING AND FUSING

Participants will learn the “geeky’” side of soldering, allowing them to chip, pick, and sweat solder with confidence. Participants will consider set-ups

for complicated soldering with multiple joins and prongs. Participants will fuse metals together. And we may as well melt some metal, too!

ALL THOSE TOOLS! HOW DO I USE AND CARE 4 THEM?

Participants will gain a solid understanding of various ways hand and machine tools can be used in metalsmithing. We will review the care and maintenance of tools and how to create texture hammers, smooth the edges on your tools, and more.
