Ever wonder what a tool is used for? How to keep it in top shape? OR How to make it better or more useful for you?
This class is for you!
This workshop is designed for New-to-Metalsmithing to Experienced Metalsmith Artists who want to develop understanding and confidence in buying, using, modifying, and maintaining their tools.
The workshop is condensed into a single 3-hour session, primarily using demonstrations and discussion. Those who would like additional guided support are strongly encouraged to join Annette Campbell in SOS / Supported Open Studio on Fridays.
Participants will gain understanding of the uses of various hand-tools and hammers, preparing them for efficient use, and maintaining them. We will discuss how various tools can achieve the same effects. We will also be talking about the larger tools, including rolling mill, torches, polishers and more. Participants will leave feeling more confident in their ability to work safely and efficiently in their studios
Participants should bring an old hammer [or two] to polish or alter. Bring your pliers or other tools you have bought but not altered. Bring tools you don't remember what they are for--maybe we can figure it out! [...We all have them!]
