TWO Days with April Bower during the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show as she takes you through the process of fusing Sterling Silver and Copper into a bimetal billet. Then pattern and etch your billets to create unique pieces you may use with your gem show treasures ! [Feb 7th and 8th, 2027]

About the event

DESCRIPTION:

This is a TWO-DAY Workshop: Feb 7th and Feb 8th, 10a-5pm each day. [with lunch break of about 45"]


REGISTRATION FEE: $355

KIT FEE: Payable to instructor at the beginning of class [cash, zelle, QR deposit code]

$180-$200 [estimated] with Sterling Silver and copper provided by the instructor. [Due to silver price fluctuations, the final price of this kit will depend on the cost of silver at the time of purchase.]


There may be extra billet metal supplies available for purchase at the workshop for industrious students who wish to make more than 4 billets. However, do not count on this availability.


Skill Level: Advanced Beginner: Be familiar with basic metal smithing skills.


Description: Students will learn to fuse Sterling Silver and Copper to make a billet. From there, students will roll, pattern, etch and patinate their billets. Finally, students will learn how to incorporate their patterned metal into jewelry or objects using cold connection and / or soldering techniques.


Students will be able to take home bi-metal patterned metals to use in their work. Some students may have time to fabricate a piece of jewelry.



Instruction will include:

·      In-person instruction,  demos, video clips, knowledgeable assistant

·      Recorded video class sent about a week before class [available for 6 months and accessed thru private YouTube link]

·      Emailed 13 page step by step instructions for student to print and bring to class


Class size: 6-8 students to allow for ample individual attention from April and her assistant [Rene!]


Students should bring:

Apron

Magnifier, if desired

Additional metals to use in pieces you design and create: ear wires, additional metals to layer with the bimetal

Favorite hand tools

Lunch / beverages [refrigerator and microwave are available]

Kit Fee: Cash / Zelle / QR deposit to studio bank account / credit card accepted [add 3% for credit card]


Studio Info: Please check Studio Info section on the 3rd Bench Studio website for detailed information about the studio, what to expect and what wear / bring. Please do NOT bring tool carts / boxes / satchels as these will impede movement around the studio; we will ask you to take them to your car.


Instructor / Studio will provide:

All tools and equipment necessary to create your bi-metal billets and create a piece of jewelry.
