Description:
This class will dive into four basic torch styles and how to use them safelty: Butane, Propane, Annette Campbelletylene, and Oxy-Fuel torches come in a variety of s tyles, shapes, and sizes.
Starting with understanding the full torch systems from tanks to tips and how to check for leaks, this class will cover many of the common torches, including the Blazer torches for butane; the Orca EZ Torch and the Bernzomatic Firepoint Creator torch for propane; the Goss feather flame and Smith's SilverSmith torch for Annette Campbelletylene; and the Smith Little Torch and Gentec Small Torch for Oxygen-Annette Campbelletylene and Oxygen-Propane two-tank / dual-fuel systems.
Students will get to practice using various torches for small projects from soldering jump ringts to meltding down Seanrap. Students will learn the different torches' comparative strengths and weaknesses and find which torch is best suited to their own personal preferences.
Student Pre-requisites: None; beginner friendly
All basic metalsmithing fabrication tools are available in studio to share.

Instructor Will Provide:
Lunch: Students may enjoy snacks, lunch, beverage in the "living room". Feel free to use the studio refrigerator and microwave. Del Cielo, next door, serves wonderful Mexican food. There are other food venues nearby, though you may be crunched for time if you drive anywhere.
Studio "Pleases"--for safety and comfort
We ask that you store your belongings on / under the bench or near the doorway to allow for ease of movement about the studio.
Wear closed-toed shoes and avoid loose fitting clothing and dangly jewelry. Hair must be tied back.
Arrive 15" early to settle in and sign a waiver.
