Traditional French Knotting - Beads (3 hrs)
Traditional knotting not only protects precious beads from rubbing together and scratching, but it also ensures that if your necklace ever breaks, you won’t lose a single stone. Beyond security, it gives a necklace a fluid, elegant drape that cannot be replicated by wire or plastic coating.

About the event
Traditional knotting not only protects precious beads from rubbing together and scratching, but it also ensures that if your necklace ever breaks, you won’t lose a single stone. Beyond security, it gives a necklace a fluid, elegant drape that cannot be replicated by wire or plastic coating.
Learn the traditional silk-knotting technique that gives fine jewelry its fluid, graceful drape.
In this, hands-on workshop, you will learn the time-honored art of traditional jewelry knotting. You will practice the muscle memory required to place perfectly uniform knots right up against your beads, and walk away with a beautifully finished, professional-grade necklace of your own creation.
What You Will Learn
Thread Selection & Prep: How to choose the right size and type of cord (such as traditional 100% silk or heavy-duty nylon) and pre-stretch it to avoid sagging later.
The Knotting Technique: Mastering the use of an awl or specialized tweezers to guide a simple overhand knot flush against the bead.
Professional Finishes: How to work with french wire (gimp) or to cleanly attach clasps, hide raw thread ends, and give your piece a boutique look.
Design & Layout: Best practices for pattern board layout, balancing bead weights, and selecting the right findings for security and style.
