Many classes and activities are beginner friendly. Class descriptions will generally indicate whether previous experience is needed. The progressive metalsmith and core metalsmith classes are great introductory classes.
If you want a “taste” of metalsmithing, try a make, mingle and munch activity; these are short, fun and engaging evening activities meant to be shared with friends and family. Also, classes are limited in size to allow for individual attention as you learn new skills.
We provide a mixture of classes. Some are specifically designed to build basic core skills and familiarize you with tools and studio equipment. Others are designed to provide you with supportive coaching experience as you learn progressively higher level skills. Others are for intermediate to advanced students. The class descriptions should provide information about skills needed. Always feel free to contact the instructor or one of the owners if you are unsure.
Absolutely. 3rd bench studio has basic hand tools and larger tools that can be shared. Typically, hand tool bins are shared between 2 people. There is a saw frame, blade, and bench pin for everyone. If there are any specific tools needed, you will likely be able to share with a peer or the instructor. Some consumable items, such as solcer, may be for sale.
